Ben Winsor managed to emerge victorious from the 2016 edition of partypoker’s WPT 500 UK, taking home the tournament’s trophy and a first-place cash prize estimated to £150,000. This is the second largest live tournament prize won by Winsor in his career so far.
This year’s edition of partypoker’s WPT 500 UK event featured a buy-in of £550. In return, all players received 30,000 chips to start with. Ben Winsor outlasted his 1,834 competitors to top the field, making another great six-figure win in his career. Over the last few years, the young player succeeded in winning several massive prizes. For instance, last November Winsor emerged victorious from the 2015 edition of the Grand Final of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, getting a prize of £178,600.
The massive number of 1,835 players gathered for the competition was greatly reduced by the tournament’s Day 3. The third day of the event saw some of the most popular poker players, such as Jack Allen, Alex Goulder, Rob Tinnion, etc. The Ambassador of partypoker brand Tony Dunst also took part in the tournament. However, all of them were eliminated before the final table of nine was set.
At the time when the final table was formed, the chip lead of 10,725,000 was held by the Slovarian player Marian Flesar. Ben Winsor was fourth, after Keith Cummins and Jack Hoffmann.
It did not took long for the first player to be eliminated from the final table. Charalampos Lappas was the first to go bust after six hands only, followed by Jack Hoffmann who was eliminated by William Davies. Eventually, the latter remained third, leaving Winsor and Cummins in the heads-up battle for the partypoker’s WPT 500 UK title. It only took them three hands to get Winsor crowned as the event’s champion.
With Ben Winsor on top of the list, Keith Cummins remained on the runner-up position, taking home a consolation prize of £90,000. William Davies remained third with a cash portion of £60,000. The fourth place in the competition was taken by Jav Javed, who managed to generate winnings of £40,000.
John Bonadies took the fifth position in the ranking, followed by Marian Flesar. The seventh place in the ranking was taken by Andrew Hulme, who received £15,000 for his participation. Jack Hoffmann and Charalampos Lappas took the eighth and ninth position, respectively forming the top 9 who headed the players base of 1,835.
